A World We Dare To Imagine 3
80 billion pounds of food are wasted every year in the US. With the average person eating about 5 pounds of food per day, that is 16 billion people that could be fed each year if we were able to limit food waste. This problem has become increasingly more prevalent around the world, but is specifically more apparent in the US. Food Network is a non-profit organization with a main goal of giving businesses and grocery stores a convenient way to spread excess food distribution in the most optimal way. Based out of LA, Food Network works to make daily stops at each business in order to collect food that they would've usually thrown away. That food is taken to a facility where it is sorted into what is and isn't edible and then is reallocated to neighborhoods that struggle with food instability.
With the help of the community and volunteers, this efficient food distribution system could be installed all over the US, helping those in hunger every day. Not only is food waste an issue in local grocery stores and restaurants, but it is also a huge issue in school lunch rooms. Food Network believes that we have the minds and materials to begin changing the way food businesses structure their allocation. We double as an organization that provides the materials to help collect food from businesses and a consulting group that can help assess and restructure the current food distribution systems.
Our goal is to reduce food waste by 20% in California within the next 2 years and we believe that Anima Mundi Development Partners can help make this goal come true. AMDP has stood for sustainability and social responsibility for years now, and we believe that AMDP's experience could play a huge role in eliminating food waste. With a communal effort, Food Network believes in leaving the world with less waste little by little, leaving a greater impact on future generations to come.
